Flood Protection Surveys

Our expertise at Warwick York is in assessing your requirements on how best to make your property more flood resilient. We can carry out a survey on your property and advise of different products that are available on the market that will best suite the properties and the customers needs. We generally base the survey on your personal experience from flooding at your property (ie the depth of water the property floods too) based on this information we can recommend lost of different products from doors to barriers, air bricks to non-return valves and much, much more. Please note that we charge for this service, the cost varies depending on the distance from our base in Yorkshire so please contact us to discuss this in more detail. We can in other circumstances offer this service nationwide but these surveys will have to be undertaken virtually.

We manufacture our own Kitemarked Flood gates and also a timber flood resilient door, for everything else we generally buy these products in form other manufactures so we have no ties / preference on what products are used it is purely based on what suites your needs best. For example an elderly or disabled person may struggle to install a barrier as and when needed so another solution such as a light weight barrier may be better? or automatic air bricks may be better than an air brick cover?

If you are purchasing a new property and are not fully aware of the potential flood risk to that property then it may be best to get a chartered surveyor to do a survey on the property, they can look at the history of flooding in that area and the potential future risk and then make recommendations on how to protect the property. These surveys generally cost approx £475 and are usually in depth regarding the risk to the property but offer no real costings for actually how to protect the property, they make very wide recommendations as to how to protect them, for example they never give accurate dimensions or exact details for us to work from so we would also need to do a survey on the property to gain accurate information to manufacture products too.

What is flood protection?

Flood Protection, Flood Resistance or Flood Mitigation’ ~ means reducing the potential risk of flooding to a property, using flood protection products or building materials to try to prevent flood water from entering a property and damaging its fabric and contents.

Please note that it is impossible to guarantee that you will not get any water into your property, all measures that we recommend are with best intentions to reduce the amount of possible water damage. Other measures are available to prevent flood water from reaching your premises such as flood walls and low level bunds, These measures will involve some expense but will pay for themselves in the long term and will represent time and money well spent and, hopefully, reduce the distress flooding causes. These protection measures are much better than traditional sandbags which are the most basic of defences and often useless in protecting a property.

We can offer advice on the following measures, often designed for your own property/premises:-

Improvements to the drainage of a property

  • Low bunds around a property

  • The raising of thresholds

  • The construction of storm porches

  • Peripheral walls/fencing

  • Flood resistant gates

  • Outside wall renders and facings, including veneer walling

  • Non-return valves in waste pipes and outlets

  • Products needing deployment such as free-standing barriers, door boards and flood skirts

  • Airbrick covers (including periscope covers and those that seal automatically when there is a flood)

  • Water-resistant external doors

  • Pump-&-sump systems to extract flood water

  • The use of concrete to fill under-floor voids or delay flooding from the ground

  • Raised electrical sockets, TV points etc

  • Flood resilient kitchens (plastic, stainless steel, free standing removable units)

  • The raising of white goods, kitchen units or other vulnerable items

  • The storage of vulnerable items off the floor or in upstairs locations

  • Changes to internal walls to speed recovery after a flood
